After I put my 292 short block together I notice when I was installing the rear main seal cap that the crank had marks like ///// complete around the crank in the seal area which you can not feel with your finger but you can feel with your finger nail.  Will this be a problem with the two piece seal?

THat doesn't sound right to me. Did you notice any marks on the main or rod journals? I would think that any marks on the crank seal surface could cause problems with the neoprene seal.

I have seen those marks on some cranks.  They are at an angle, so as the crank rotates, they would tend to work the oil toward the inside of the engine.  They are intended for rope seals.  I would think they should be polished out for a neoprene seal to work properly.

In most cases those /////// marks have been polished down by the old rope seal running on them, unless someone has just put them on the seal surface they probably will not have any adverse affect on you neoprene seal.  When polishing a crank I will usually hit that pretty good with the belt. Wink
