There's no advantage to using 292 rods. They are .070" longer and will cause problems that need to be cured at additional expense. Don't try to use 292 pistons with 312 crank and rods. Although the pin height is the same the skirt is slightly longer and will hit the crankshaft counterweights. Don't ask how I learned this.

Either the 272/292 or 312 crank can be offset ground to increase stroke. We have pistons and rods for that application.

John Mummert has stock stroke 312 replacement rods that would be a good option and when you consider the cost of rebuilding a set of stock rods, the price is very competitive.

Is there a benefit to using the 292 rod length? Does that leave the top of the piston to thin? I have a good 312 crank, and a complete C2AE engine, I was told I'd have to locate 312 connecting rods to complete the process???

Here are some past threads on the subject.  Doing a search on the site can net you a few more.

Cody;

As stated in other posts, the easiest and least expensive way to stroke your 292 is to use a 312 crank and have the main journals truned down to fit the 292 journal size. Make sue the shop you choose to do this has the proper wheels to retain the rear oil slinger. Now you also will need to use 292 rods with the 312 crank. I used the heavy duty C2AE rods which are getting hard to find. The 292 rods are longer than the 312 rods and this will cause the pistons to rotate out of the cylinder bores at the top of the stroke. I think I had to fly-cut 0.062" of the tops of the pistons to obtain zero deck height. This isn't that big a deal, just be prepared to spend a little extra cash for the machining. Good luck!

well you can have a 312 crank ground to fit your block. or i believe you can have your 292 crank offset ground, or john Mummert offers full out ready to go stroker rotating assembles on his web site. just search Ford Y-block and it should come up on google.

Please send me the ingredients to stroke a 292 Y.  I'd like to start collecting the parts and specs to bring to the builder.  This might have already been done on this site or maybe you know of a website so links to these places would suffice.

Thank you.
