Does the ford car tranny setup include a transmission mount or is held by the bell housing?

Depending on which specific car you are asking about there is a rear tranny mount supported by a removeable crossmember.

56 had a removable crossmember at the rear of all manual transmissions.

Generally, throughout the 50's, CARS had the rear mount on the trans. Trucks with YBlocks were different, the rear mount was on the bellhousing.

this is a curious question.. all of the truck bells I have seen have "dog ears" for a mounting point on them.. BUT i have a Truck (big 10 spline) 3 speed OD tranny that has an obvious place to bolt it to a cross member just after the main gearbox and before the OD unit on the underside.. Is there one way to mount that is stronger/more reliable than the other??

Well, here is my second question.  What do you think of mounting a car bell housing in a truck and fabbing up a crossmember for the tranny? I am thinking about this instead of modifying the truck bell when isntalling a T5.  Any thoughts?

I believe that's how they did it from the late 60s on. You will need to either add mounts to hold the engine, or make a steady rest for the engine. I think it'll be a lot more work than modifying the bell housing.

I was thinking of fabricating motor mounts to fit the car mounts.  More work, probably.  I always seem to make more work for myself.

You answered your own question, in a way. Going to a trans mount will put added stress on the bellhousing/back of the block maybe enough to rip out the bolts in the block or crack the bellhousing. The solution to this is add side mounts to the engine like the cars.

Seems like a lot of work since there is an adapter ? for a T-5 from Mummert for the truck bellhousing (if I remember correctly.) Or is it a modified bellhousing???
