Can the mid 60s COM trans be push started

When I had my first 65 galaxie back in the late 70s I think it could be pushed started but I have drank a bunch of beer since then and my memory is a little foggy,now that I have a 292 located I would like to use a COM instead of a FMX if it can be push started and if I can get someone to go through it.  Now to get rid of the funky shift pattern of the COM can a FMX valve body be subsituted to get the normal D21 instead of the small dot,big dot and low.

The FMX vanve body can be used in the COM.  The COM will have to have the one way clutch (sprag) in the center of the transmission.  Some COM had it, some didn't.  The COM can be push started, the FMX cannot.

The reason a COM can be push started is because it has 2 pumps, one of which is driven by the output shaft. This pump was eliminated in the FMX

I recently jump started one last summer and the book said bring it up to 40 mph in nuetral with the key and drop it in gear, fired right up. this was a 62 galaxie my brother got from a friend who owns a junk yard and he cranked it over for a month, but it didn't have enough compression to start on its own, when the cylinders were oiled it would almost start but would soon loose compression after cranking.

After towing down the road it ran like a champ and he drove it all summer, one of the best running Ys I have ever seen. I used to work on old snowmobiles and out boards and I would never wear my arm out trying to pull them over, I would jack up a vehicle, put it in 3rd gear with a little throttle and push the snowmobile clutch into the tire and let it turn 5000 rpm or so until it overcame the low compression factor from sitting around. The outboards and some snowmobiles I would just use a large drill with a socket on the flywheel nut. Its crude ways but if someone who doesn't have any money and  just wants and old junk running it usually works.

The worst thing you can do is let an old man or an old car/engine sit.

I want to use a COM in case the Y block starter goes out and I can push start it to get it home that is if I can find anyone around here to rebuild it,I am also considering a manual trans since I have a toploader 4 speed.

Can an FMX valve body be used in a FOM?  If so, would that provide starting in 1st gear every time?  If not, is there ANY way to get a FOM to behave that way?

Sorry if this is a stupid question; I dont know much about differences of different trannys.

The FMX valve body can be used in a FOM, but you also have to used the FMX detent, drill and tap the case for a vacuum modulator, and install a one way clutch in the center support, and install the front planetary assembly to accept the one way clutch if the FOM doesn't have one.  The easiest way I've found to get the low gear start is to use an FMX trans with the FOM front pump and input shaft (if your FOM has the 17 spline input.  If it is 29 spline input you don't have to change it), converter, tail shaft and tail housing.  Whichever way you go, you'll need an FMX donor trans.  The trans case will have to have the top two bolt holes re-drilled to match the Y bellhousing.  The bottom two holes match up to the bellhousing.

Today I picked up a 67 FMX or a FM-MX like the 67 shop manual calls it,it came out of a 67 custom with a 289 and after looking through the 67 shop manual it has a rear pump so it might be able to be push started so now that I got my trans I will be looking for other small parts to put the 292 in the 55.

My 63 f-100 has an original COM that I have push started a few times in it's life (A dead battery or two, & at least one incogneeto departure in high school.)

It works, takes a second or three once you drop the lever into low & makes a zing sound like those old hoby airplanes with the zip start stick.
