With the popularity of the T5 to Y-Block swap i was curious about exactly which vehiclesthe usable ones for the swap were available in. I know of the Mustang/Capri and the Turbo Tbird but were there any others? Like what about 2 wheel drive Rangers with a 5 speed? Were they T-5's?

Lots of info through google, but try these two for starters...

http://www.britishv8.org/Articles/Borg-Warner-T5-ID-Tags.htm

http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_catalog/manual_transmission_overhaul_kits/borg_warner_t5_overhaul_kit.html

Things that matter are "World Class" or "NWC", V8 or 6 cyl., input shaft size/spline, etc.

They're getting scarce in the salvage yards round here. I had mine built to Z-spec by a guy in Missouri named Anthony at Streetcarz Performance for about $700. Its a nice unit, though I only have neighborhoood miles on it.

T-5's were first installed in Mustangs about 1985. Dimensionally, the V8 T5's remained the same through 1993. In 1994 the input shaft was lengthened.

World Class T5 was introduced in 1987. These are said to be stronger.

V6 T5's appear the same as V8's externally.

4cyl T5's have a slightly longer input shaft with a smaller pilot.

4cyl pilot = .590"        V8 and V6 pilot = .668"

4cyl T5s are wide ratio with very little overdrive.

Early Rangers( 83-86) used a Toyo Kogyo 5 speed, which is junk.

Around 1987 the Rangers went to a Mazda built 5-speed

John,

Ranger/Bronco II Toyo Kogyo and Mitsubishi 5 speeds. Purest junk every to come across the Pacific. I had to rebuild those frickin' miserable things on warranty at the Ford dealer. Whole thing was held together by lame roll pins.

thanks all.. i just wasn't sure.. I figured since GM was using the T-5 in it's cars and small trucks that maybe ford was doing the same.. i was going to run a good ol' vintage 3 speed OD tranny I have in the hot rod but finding the proper floor shift conversion kit is turning out to be an absolute pain.. So i might just go with the T-5..

Is there an offset shifter kit for T5s or do they end up being in the middle of the hump.  Dave
