To be sure there is nothing remotely "stock" about the cars, every one is supposed to look a little like a  Front Wheel Drive, 4 door sedan, with a transverse V6.  If you drive a Camry can you win the Daytona 500? Tongue. They don't even qualify as silhouette racers in my opinion.  For circle track I really prefer small dirt ovals but they don't run too many Y Blocks these days except for Mike Henaults.

But to be getting 850 Hp out of 358 cube pushrod V8's with one 4 bbl carb at 8500RPM for 500 miles isn't beanbag. And when they do race without restrictor plates it can be the best of big time racing with lots more passes and hard charging than you will see in F1 or Indy car and the beer is cheaper at my house.

Now you know why I don't mess of pay attention to nascar anymore, and why the're losing their crowds in the stands. Heard they were lowering the gate fee to try and get more people back in the stands but with the phoney cars their running I believe the hand wrighting is on the wall for what the France family has done. They have discriminated against fords for way too long and it couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch.Tongue

Several years back, I attended the Texas State fair, where there was a squirrel's car (skole bandit) being displayed in the auto pravilion as a STOCK car, the squirrel was talking to people, as people would stop to look at the reflected undercariage, exposing the rearend, I asked him if his car was stock, his reply, yep.. I then asked didn't know Gen Mess Crap came with Ford drive line..??

Not All Stock Cars are Stock

Brother and I own/operate 1957 Ford Fairlane 312/4x2 and two 1963 Falcons 302 rollers carburated 600cfm, FE427 sitting in shed..

John: I think that's what we have now.. that outfits name should be changed to the National Association for Silhouete Car Racing. In the last YBM, Jerry C. reprinted a letter sent to a car magazine some years ago, ( I was aware of the letter) that really sums up the current racing situation. NASCAR is as phoney as a $3 bill...

Doug:

Did you happen to hear the commentator mention that the guys running from the Petty stable were using their cars from last year, put Ford noses and engines in their Dodges?  Shows how generic the cars are.  Are we heading toward complete "approved" cars with the grilles and engines having decals to designate what brand they are supposed to be?

Well it was nice to see a fair number of Fords running up front and that the restrictor plate is a little less restrictive.  I actually thought it was a pretty good race. But you would think that the France's would have the track in better shape for the premier and opening race of the season.
