I feel like an idiot for asking this so late in my Y-Block experience, but I have visited several website and I am confused.
I have Y, maybe a 292, maybe a 312...where is the casting number to determine, and what numbers will mean what? Most of what I have seen gives me little idea of what would definitively be a 312 or a 292, a lot lump them (or don't say anything about 312s).

Al, go to john mummerts site, ford y block and there is plenty of info on block numbers and identification points, to be sure. if you can see the crank flange, there is a cast dot allmost as wide as the flange edge, that is a 312 crank. As you will see on y block site there are a few different block numbers that can and cannot be 312. happy hunting.
