I was greeted by my new neighbor the other day,he informed me that ford Y-BLOCKS are known to spin cam bearings.I said"wow really",He informed me that the center cam bearings always spin thats why they dont get any oil to the top end.I said wow what should I do?He said you should consider taking it out(the Y-BLOCK) and put something better in.I said thats funny I havnt had that problem with any Y-block ever.He got pissed.I started it up and revved it up to drown out his bitching. He then told me about his ultra rare 396 shevelle that was so bitchin.I said does it run?He said no.Why did it spin a cam bearing,He said yes!Why is it that scrub lovers always seem to have a "ultra rare car"I seems they are all rare and ultra valuable, but Ive seen them all.I have my own saying for sbc (simple bull crap)or (simple bull chit)Oh gosh I could go on and on.There was this kid a while back that had this ugly 82 el srubmino. He informed me that he had his buddy building him a 383 scrub and it would have 600 horse.Like that was going to scare me into buying into this bull.He blew that thing up after talking crap for almost a year racing my sons nearly stock 5.0 mustang.I could go on and on,I had too much coffee this morning and watching the "power block " on tv has got me on a rant!

I'm with you, my scrub buddies and nephews come in to my garage and ask why I won't work on scrubs or put scrub motors in a Ford. I told them the other day, "any dub can work on a scrub, but once you own a ford you'll be praising the lord. Now after reading the latest Y Block mag this morning and seeing Jerry's phrase the Bowtie bumpkins I'll be using that when they come in. " Here come the Bowtie Bumpkins" Gotta love it.

I like that term "bowtie bumpkins" ,Jerry is a fun guy!Ive always liked him.Its been a while since Ive talked to him.Have you ever heard about the legenary 475 horse 327?I guess if you add an "edlebrock " and crome valve covers it will boost power to 500 horse! If you put a crome timing cover on its good for another 100.Ha!Yeah right even hot rod mag recently did a FORD vs shivy small block dyno dual. Jan 10 issue. If you read it ,it looks like the shivys didnt make the cut.The 71 boss 351c was the small block king.,not the legendary LT1,even with the crome valve covers! In the march issue of hot rod deluxe they do a 283 build up.A 327 crank was used and they came up with a 307,wow what a dog! they somehow manage to call it a 316?WHATEVER,well this thing somehow made 400 horse with crappy camel hump heads? yeah right, these people have been lying about this thing again.YEAH so anyone can go out and gather up all this gm JUNK and make that much power.Last time I saw a 283 on the dyno it was pathedic weak junk!they couldnt even make that power with a new crate 350.My cousin was ranting about how good his zz4 crate motor was ,even after he spun a bearing and had to get another one. These things are mickey mouse! And as for mice and rats, they get eaten by COBRAS all the time!

A while back, a dear friend introduced me to widower/husband of her late childhood best-friend. He was long time service manager of a major brand-X dealership, and owned (but didn't personally drive) a high-end scrub drag car. To be polite, I tried to avoid the usual cobra-mongoose/scrub-Ford banter, but finally just couldn't resist a jibe re: sbc reliability problems. He bit his lip, and said "I DID learn not to try for too much power from one" (I could almost see the thought-balloon picture in his head of a super expensive motor exploding!).

nathan soukup (2/28/2010) Have you ever heard about the legenary 475 horse 327?Funny story about the 327. Yesterday, I was trying to find reviews for parts for my car, an '88 Firebird 305, and somehow I came across a forum thread where someone is inquiring how much power they can get safely from their 327. I kid you not, from the mouths of the Chevy guys, once you get past about 400hp, that bottom end probably is not going to stay together. I thought what??? This is the engine that came from the infamous 283 and it won't hold together at 400 hp!! No wonder they were so afraid of the Y!! I guess that's why they got on the ban wagon. Even a lightweight Ford 5.0 will support about 450hp reliably. Now I wish I had bookmarked that forum.

Yeah the only srub that can really rock isnt a scrub ,its a world products or merlin or whatever. That a redesigned crap shoot .I used to race a 73 monte slow on the roundy round for a while.I was converted to the FORD side when I got tired trying to catch a fast T-BIRD or bomber bird!Got tired of blowin those things up.Raced 76 granaderGRANADA) on the dirt roundy round and got my engine torn down every weekend until I went broke from buying gasket kits. They thought I was cheating ,when I wasnt even winning.I was the only FORD competing in street stock, and I wasnt even running a CLEVELAND.

I was staying in a hotel in Ontario Canada across from the GM plant and some of their travelling engineers were there. They were up their trying to fix reliability problems with their products. From their own mouths they said they had the worst warranty problems of all the makers and Ford was the most reliable out there. They also informed me that they would not be driving one of their own products if the company didn't provide them with one.
