Unless you want to look original, a group 24F will work just fine. They are available from any vendor and are a lot cheaper.

My '56 also has the group 29 battery. I got an Interstate at a local parts house for it. They had to order it but it only took a day or two. I don't recall what I paid for it now. Rodger

The 56/57 TBirds use the same 29NF (57 optional is a 32??). I got mine at my local Ford dealer. It is a commercial battery. I had to order it, but it came in the next day. The price when I bought was the same as most of the other stores, although I did not check NAPA at the time.
I am told Interstate has this battery, as well as Sears. Special order with Sears, not sure about Interstate.

I got my battery from NAPA (57 Ford). Its a group 29 like Bing said. They also had the same type group 29 battery at Complete Battery Source.

The OE battery was problably a group 29NF (13.5 x 5.5 x 9). The battery should have a 29NF imbossed in one end of the battery. If not take the Napa number and ask them what the group size is. Group size to a battery salesman what a shoe size to a shoe salesman. The CCA on a 29NF is pretty low around 450-550. Still plenty to start a 56 but in terms of todays batteries a bit low. If it is in fact a 29NF they are hard to come by. You can try tractor supply, a big R or if you lucky enought to have a Batteries Plus close by then try them. The part number will be SLI29NF and it should be $119.99. Bing

Now I know this is dumb as hell, but where do y'all get a battery for your 56+ Ford? The only place I see one listed online is NAPA. I mean I have nothing against NAPA, in fact I like NAPA but is this nuts or what? It is a long battery 12.5 or 13" and 5 to 5 1/4 wide .. Right now it's got a NAPA commercial in it. I've had the car 2+ years and it's the battery that was in it when I got it. What do ya think ?
