Wonder if one of the bolts that hold the fields in place came loose? Or even check to make sure pulley isn't rubbing on case. Only other thing to do is remove it and open it up. Bearing would have to be real bad to allow armature to hit fields.

I would take the belt of and turn it and see what it feels like. Something is not right if its making noise. I ran those generators quite a few years and they are very simple. Demanding full output wore out brushes in a hurry, but they lasted 25,000 which would be almost forever on a classic car.

Had new bearings put in the Generator about a year ago. Charges fine, but now a rubbing sound is coming from it. When I put my hand on it, it feels rough. Are there end spacers in there? What is likely to be the problem?.. And no I don't plan to convert to an alternator. My car is on a stock collector license plate. Only safety upgrades allowed.. Thanks.
