Jim:

The heading on your home page says, "no popups".  Just a few minutes ago I got one, a full page ad about women's tee shirts.  Have you had to resort to selling space, did someone sneak into your system, or did someone sneak in the back door of my computer?  I quickly deleted it like I do all the popups on other sites, so I don't know who it was.  If you need to sell space to keep the site going, I can live with that.

Also, I still cannot log back on after being offline for more than about 4 hours.  Sometimes the site remembers me, usually not.  Any ideas?

John

Hoosier,I don't have any pop ups, because I am on a Mac, but in regards to the "remember me" thing I also have to do the same thing. It can be pretty annoying after all this time.

And while I am at it Spell check has NEVER worked here for me either.

The popup could be a result of adware on your computer. If it keeps coming up search for a program called AVG and another called SpyBot Search and Destroy. They are free and will get rid of a lot of that stuff.

I've been using my auto sign in for months now with no problem on my PC. The spell check does not work anymore though. Seems to have an error in the code.

I have a feeling that the auto login has to do with your IP address.  I use my PC from a lot of different locations which is why I show something like 1000 visits.  (which seems pretty excessive to me).  So if you have a static IP and I'm sure it works, but if your IP is always changing it wouldn't recognize you.  Just a thought. don't know.

Jim:

Just got another pop-up.  Grindtv.com.  Is it coming from your end or mine, or is there any way to tell?  And rocker, I only use my home computer, so unless it's done automatically somehow, my IP is always the same.  Thanks for the thought.

No John, I have NOT resorted to pop ups, adware, etc. If I don't like em, I surely wouldn't put them on you guys. You need to get something like spyware Dr., Adaware, etc and scan your local system. Get one of your local computer jocks to check it out.

Jim:

Thanks for your answer.  You just eliminated 1/2 of my troubleshooting process.  I've talked to my son, my personal "geek", he said it could be either end.  Since it isn't you, there's not many other choices.  It isn't a real bother, I just wanted to make sure you haven't been hacked again.  Next time my son is here we'll (he'll) get it fixed.

Good deal.  I run Spyware doctor on a regular basis on my Windows machine, don't need it on my mac as it doesn't have those issues.

It is not this site that had the pop up ads. It is the YBlock Discussion Group site. I used to go to that site regularly about two years ago (beside this one) and quit it because of the ads and other nuisence items. Swore I'd never go back, but I did and its almost as bad as when I left.
