I got my car running and realized it isn't finding the correct gears when I shift on the column. It looks like there was a bushing or something where the linkage attaches to the tranny shift arm. Does anyone know where to get this bushing and/or the real name of it? Any help would be great because I can't find one. Thanks, Kevin

If this is similar to the Ford one it is a rubber bushing with a nylon insert to fit in the lever and the rod goes through it.In order to get the rubber into the arm slip the nylon sleeve out and insert the rubber piece.Put the nylon bushing back in afterwards.

If this is the bushing that goes in the lever on the steering column(not down at the transmission) and the rod down to  the transmission fits into into it,the Ford basic # is 7341.Tee-Bird sells the one for the 54-56 Ford car under the part#7341 for about $7.00.If it also fits your Merc I am not sure.If you call them they may be able to tell you or if someone here has a 55 Mercury Chassis parts book they could tell you the original part# and I could tell you if its the same #as the 55-56 Ford.Merc repro parts are much harder to find. There is also a compay called Greene auto parts who have a VERY large inventory of obsolete Ford Merc parts.Phone #1-800-543-4959.If the part you are after is what I described ask them for that part for 55 Mercury.
