I am looking at a 1957 Ford Custom  2 dr sedan, that the owners Grandfather bought New, it was a special order car and they claim it has had the 3x2 intake on it since day one, it is a cast iron intake, the engine is a 312 with Chrome T-Bird special Valve covers, this iron intake, 3 speed manual trans... Thanks for any help..

What would be the engine code if this jewel came with factory 3x2 induction?

Was this induction even offered in 57 on this stripped down car?

maybe it was so sort of Dealer installed option. They did have some 2X4 kits that were installed that way. Look for some sort of ford number on the manifold. Are you sure it iron?

Never seen a cast iron 3x2 intake. Ford never used a 3x2 setup factory or dealer installed to my knowledge.

WILLIE, THERE WERE NO TRI-POWER SET UPS OFFERED ON THE 57 FORDS, CHECK THE FIRST LETTER ON THE I.D. TAG, THIS WILL TELL YOU THE ENGINE. SUCH AS AN (E) IS A 312 WITH 2 FOUR BARREL CARBS.. ALSO I HAVE NEVER SEEN A IRON 3X2 MANIFOLD, MAYBE IT IS AN ALUMINUM PAINTED RED? HOPE THIS HELPES TOM

Somewhere I heard of a cast iron 3-2 intake on a '57 Merc 312 from Stroppe's shop.  Don't remember where I heard it.  Supposed to have been a racing thing before the M335 hit the tracks.

See if you can find some numbers or a manufacturing logo on the manifold. ditto with the carbs. That will help identify it. For what it's worth, even if not original, it could be dealer installed and most certainly is "period correct". Use a magnet to find out if it really is cast iron. If it is THAT would be very unusual. If it's what John guessed the manifold's probably worth serious money.
