WE here in WA (Wait Awhile - otherwise known as West Autralia) appear to be better off than anywhere else in Aus.
This is straight off the local Licensing site.
I must say the last paragraph is a tad confusing. I think it refers to light trucks and pickups.
From January 2003 new provisions have taken effect relating to Left Hand Drive (LHD) vehicles in WA.
If you are a resident of Australia and you import a LHD vehicle, you may need to convert the vehicle to RHD before it can be registered if your LHD vehicle was manufactured up to 15 years ago.
However if your left hand drive (LHD) vehicle is less than 4.5 tonne, and was manufactured more than 15 years ago, it may be possible to register it without the need for a right hand drive conversion. It must however be intended for personal use only.
Here in WA all cars had seatbelts fitted from 1974 (I think - ADR's again) and they must be worn.
You can lose your license in a day if you are caught a couple of times. They hit us with 5 demerit points and we are only allowed 12 in 3 three years. Public holidays they give us double demerits.
It doesn't pay to be a bad boy here.
