The Model A guys like the 6 volt alternators, better lighting. I have seen ads that they are available in positive ground versions.

I noticed an ad in an old car catalog about his alternators. He said the 12 volt model puts out a certain number of amps, the 6 volt puts out 1/2 as many amps. Makes me wonder if they are the same alternator with different regulators. Turning a 12 volt unit down to 6 volts would cut the amperage, I believe.

Fellow local club member with same car as mine has one. He likes it, BUT only recently discovered it does not charge at idle/lower RPMs. Complaint to supplier proved futile (don't have brand info to forward). Can't see the point of installing one otherwise?

I noticed in the Speedway magizine that they sell a 6 volt alternator. Thought crossed my mind about using one of these in my 55 bird instead of the conversion to 12 volt. Anyone ever use one of these?
