Had a fun little adventure picking up the 292,went to the east side of Cleveland to pick up the motor and a COM but the COM was missing along with the exhaust manifolds but it has the valley pan that I can use for a PCV system so all is not bad. Since he no longer had the trans I picked up a factory 4 bbl intake for a 289/302 and a carter 4 bbl from a 56 merc, well the 292 had been sitting on the garage floor for about 40 years and I think it rusted a hole in the oil pan so the back of my truck looks like the gulf of mexico with the oil and some water from the rain we went through. On the way home I picked up a 49 pontiac for a guy at work in Akron and headed for home,I think I picked up a bad tank of gas as the truck did not run too good and with all the load it was all I could do to get it to go 60 and did act like the fuel pump was going out a couple times. That tank did not last long and when I stopped for gas again it would not idle too good but after I filled up it started running better and could go 65 with no problem so I better get some dry gas and put in the tank,I was suprised that my beater truck with a 460 got 15 miles to the gallon pulling a dolly up to get the motor as around town I doubt it gets 10. I filled up again about 20 miles north of Columbus and it still has over 3/4 of a tank so the 460 does not do to bad on the highway even with towing a heavy car and a motor in the back,I am going to use the 460 in another truck project when I am done with my 66 F250 and with some tuning I might be able to get 18 to 20 on the highway with it. If anyone is interested in the later 2 bbl intake and a expansion tank let me know as those will not be used.

One thing I forgot to mention was when I got there he said can you identify a 292 which I said yes but got me thinking does he have a bunch of Y blocks and told him they all basicly look the same,it turned out he also had a 260 but could not remember which one was which. There for a second I thought it was a wasted trip but even with no trans I got a cast iron intake for my 302 and the hard to find merc carter carb,I put a aluminum 4 bbl intake on a low mile 302 and it started to use oil and since I have to pull a head off to repair a noisey guide the cast iron intake will be going on.

The pontiac is solid and probably came from the southwest as its a heater delete car,the PO took all the trim off to repaint but never finshed so it will get painted flat black and driven. Someone put in late model seats and lost the headliner bows but a local junkyard has a few of those old pontiacs to get the needed parts.
