Something's happening out there....

I just got a copy of the August 2010 issue of Street Rodder (yes, I subscribe, I admit it, ok) and on page 84 is a several page article on how to get your powertrain lined up in your street rod. What engine do they use to show the mock ups? A Ford 312, of course! Looks like there are over 10 photos in the article that show the Y. Just got home from a Hershey, PA, trip with the kiddos, and had a big stack of mail --- of course that article caught my eye.

Nice to see some Y block coverage!

Street Rodder is pretty good when it comes to the Y unlike some other mags.  Score one for the good guys.

I picked up the magazine last night at a book store. $7.62 with tax!

As I glanced at the article the engine started to look familiar. I realized we had built the engine in our shop. It is actually a 331cu in stroker. Keith Cornell has made quite a name for himself building old hotrods that actually get driven, not just trailer queens.

In the same issue did you notice the cross dressing scrub with Thunderbird on the valve covers?  I can't write what I called the owner/builder when I saw that.

That's funny. Just last week, one of my Chevy friends was talking about something which bolts to a Chevy to make it look like something else. Can't remember what it was now. But I said, "if you like the engine so much, then why do you feel like you have to disguise it?"

I've been off the the grid (the net mainly) for awhile.. Glad someone else posted about that SBC dressed up like a Y.. Gotta admit, though, that i picked up the mag after i've downed a couple and it took me a minute or two lookin at the picture that it wasn't a Y.. I laughed and then tried to explain to my girlfriend why i was laughing looking at a hot rod magazine.. Good Times...

And Charlie it was probably those faux "Olds Rocket" valve covers they sell for SBC's.. Personally I'd rather just have the Olds Motor intead of just the Valve Covers..

Y-Blocks must be on the minds of a lot of people these days (even when it is a mistake).  In the same magazine, a spread on Billy (ZZ Top) Gibbons' 58 T-Bird "Mexican Blackbird", they said the all stock 352 "is otherwise your basic Y-Block V-8".
