I have the opportunity to pick up a working Turbo Drive transmission out of a 57 Lincoln. My question is will it bolt to a 312 in a 56 mercury. I know the transmission is similar to the merc-o-matic but that's about it.

The 368 LYB bellhousing is different than that of the Y. Unless you can swap out the bellhousings on the transmission, then it’s going to be tough to use that transmission behind a Y engine or behind any other engine for that matter without some kind of adapter plate.

yes, it will work, just use your merc bell. it's probably the same trans with mabey a extra clutch plate in each drum. check overall length, you may have to change drive shaft length.
