1/4" to be sure. I have a deep one welded to a long extension just for that purpose.

Use a DEEP or extended length socket AND tape it .

Hi Bill;; Word of caution, I wrap a small piece of tape around the socket and extention, don't want that socket coming of and droppin' down... Good luck and HAVE FUN!! God Bless Eddie

Hi Bill, Charlie is right of course, it is a 1/4". But I've found that some sockets are too thick-walled and won't go down into the hole far enough to hook up with the pump driveshaft. Be sure you have a thin socket, like a Snap-on. Good luck, Nick Brann - K.C., MO

I believe it is 1/4" It does turn counterclockwise. You got the video camera on?

Y-Guys: A little help out there in "Y"land. I'm about to prime my engine oil pump and I need to know the size 1/4 inch socket to use. It seems to be 9/32 but it's hard to tell with the engine in the truck. I don't want to mess it up now, since I've come this far. Thx in advance Bill It turns counter-clock wise, right??
