I used a pair of cutters to cut each tab at the openings of the bottom plate of the filter section.  I left the side walls of the filter section on.  Once the bottom id off the filter material just pulls out.  This whole thing fits over the aftermarket air cleaner.

Put on the base of the oil bath. Install the crome air cleaner with a wing nut.  The put the top section on over it and another wingnut to hold it.  I meaured and there is an inch or two gap between the oil bath base and the bottom of the side wall of the filter section.  It has given plenty of air flow.  I thought that I might get a power shear and cut more of the side wall of the filter section away later, when I can make it a clean cut.

I could not figure a way to lift the flange around the edge of the lid and then make it flat again without dinging it all up.

The link to 45787 is my post.  The conversion was really easy and took about 10-15 minutes.  After the top cap of the oil bath cleaner is put on, it looks stock.  You will need 2 wing nuts, one for the internal air cleaner and one for the top part of the oil bath housing.  If you need any more details just ask in this thread.

I found a link to this question at  http://www.y-blocksforever.com/forums/FindPost45787.aspx
If you type oil bath air cleaner into the search box when viewing the technical pages you will get a heap of links to similar articles.
Member rgrove has detailed instructions on the conversion and may email you with them.

Guys can you help me find a link to converting an oil bath aircleaner to one that takes a standard paper filter?

Cheers!
