If you can find a shop to do it have your shoes fitted to the drums. The difference in stopping power is amazing.

It originally had power brakes but it was a single not a dual master. I believe the bolt pattern is 5x5, however I have been wrong before... I just turned the rear brakes and adjusted them all around, it now brakes pretty good, but since this is my first car with all drums, I have no comparison as to how good it should stop.

Not sure if I am fully understanding the question, but on a disc / drum conversion, the larger resvoir on the master should be plumbed to the front discs. The smaller resevoir is for the rear drums. As for the bolt pattern, you can use original wheels with dis brakes, ( 4 1/2" bolt pattern & 15" rim minimum) but you may have to get the center hub turned on the rotors to fit inside the stock wheels. You can also open up the stock wheels to fit, using a dremil too or die grinder. If I remember you only need to grind away less than an 1/16".

Is the Master Power Brake conversion not the right bolt patter for the front wheels?  I was considering this system.

It is still the stock drum/drum. I have yet to do a disc conversion. I can't seem to find one where I can keep the original bolt pattern for the stock wheels. It is a 55 monterey.

As far as I know, if it is a disc/drum master, there is no residual valve at all in the master.  That is why they use a combination valve (the squarish, odd shaped block that the brake lines go into.  It is supposed to work as a residual pressure valve and a proportioning valve.

If you have a drum/drum master, then the residual valves are in the master.

The disc/drum masters usually have a small and a large reservoir.  The large reservoir goes to the front (discs).

Was the master originally for drum/drum or drum /disc?Reason is on the drum/disc only the outlet for the drum side has a  residual pressure check valve built in.If the master is for drum/drum both oulets have a check valve and I do not think it makes a differnce which line goes where although normally as mentioned front port goes to rear brakes and rear port to front brakes.

  

That is normally correct on a Ford, Front line to rear and rear line on master to front brakes.

This may come across as a stupid question. I recently put a dual master cylinder on my Mercury and want to make sure I plumbed it right. Which line goes where on the master cylinder? Closest to the bumper is the rear? closest to the booster is front? I'm starting to wonder if I did it right the first time. Any help would be great. Thanks, Kev
