The "dome" that the gauges sit in is held in place by studs with nuts that hold it to the main dash.If you get under the dash and feel around the back of the mounting panel you will find there are I believe 5 or 6 nuts threaded onto the studs. The one in the left side of the dash above the parking brake handle is the hardest one to locate.I had a squeek in the dash of mine and all the nuts wer loose.Never did reach the afore mentioned stud above the parking brake handle.I think the nuts are 3/8 but not 100% sure.If all you want to do is remove the gauges its easy from the back of the dash. The speedo head needs to be turned to disengage once he screws are removed.Hope this helps.

I want to remove the instruments from the dash of my 56 Fairlane for restoration. Can someone tell me if the panel around the gauges can be removed from the front with the gauges attached in one piece? If not what is the best way to remove the speedo and instruments. Thanks
