Classicautoair.com is another good source. They have a 55-56 Ford conversion kit that uses the stock 55 or 56 dash heater control mechanism. It will look factory stock but operates the new unit. They also have the conversion bracket for an Alt and the Sanden compressor on a Y-Block. I think they get them from Alan Grove in Kansas. Both the alt & compressor mount on the passenger side. Just checked out these people and can only say a big THANKS to kcblueoval for the info. Finally someone makes a specific system for the 55-56 along with many others. Regards

I was told the york compressor took over 15 hp to run, and the sanden about 5 hp.

thanks, Mark

Jerry is right about using the newer Sanden compressor. You will be time and money ahead with the newer unit. Classicautoair.com is another good source. Good Luck,

Jerry, my 58 is at my friends shop a half hour away. I'm busy trying to plow through a honey do list for my sons graduation/ off to college party. So the next time I go work on it, I'll snap off a picture.

thanks, Mark

Thanks Mark. I would like to see pictures of the sanden compressor installation. I believe the 57 compressors were made by tecumseh and are different from the york. the bottom of the compressor bolts to the cylinder head where the generator bracket normally goes and the generator bolts onto the bottom of the compressor onto ears cast into the bottom plate. I have ordered gaskets for the compressor from Dennis Carpenter and will pull the head off this weekend to check the valves in the valve plate. Hopefully its just a matter of getting the the valves to seal rightr again. If it still doesn't work i'm going to consider changing it to the sanden compressor and brackets. Jerry

Jerry, I posted a thread about a sanden compressor into a 58, with a y- block awhile ago. I wound up getting a bracket kit from vintage air for about 100$, a sanden compressor from summit for about 200$, and the kit used a gm one wire altenator, about 100$ also from summit. I have not plumbed the ac as yet, but the car is running with the compressor and altenator installed. That part of the swap was fairly easy, I did get the wrong advice from the guy at vintage air, wound up retuning the top fitting compressor for a rear discharge unit. Some guys will get all technical about a R-12 evaporator not working with a 134-A compressor, but I have done two conversions on my 87 T-bird, and a 93 Sable. Both cool awesome, I did have to replace the 23 and 17 year old hose on both cars, after a season or two. If you want to stay with the old York compressor, I have a cast iron , and aluminum one. Shot me an offer, Mark. I'll try to post a picture of the sanden, and brackets

thanks, Mark

I carried my 57 hardtop to have the air conditioner charged monday but the compressor would not build any pressure. Does anybody know where to find parts for the 57 factory air system or should i just take the heavy thing off and change it to the sanden compressor. The hoses are new and the drier has just been rebuilt. Any ideas? Jerry P
