Has anyone out there tried the Gearheads power steering sector in the 55-57 birds? It looks like a very simple install. Prersonally I don't like the feel of rack and pinion steering and I don't want to mess with the steering geometry. Also looking to buy headers for a 55 bird, the headers at John Mummert's look like a nice quality part. Appreciate any feed back on these parts. Thanks

I looked into it. I personally wasn't convinced SO i rebuilt my entire PS setup instead. Call me an old fashioned traditionalist but I didn't like the idea of sawing off my orignal tbird steering column AND dumping all the rebuildable stock stuff.

BUT the biggest reason- The headers you're are talking about-I bet they won't fit after you do all that. the sector is in the way.

I've installed the FPT headers on mine and their advantages outperform any R&P things IMHO.

And by the way I've tried to say this before you can get the headers direct from Stan at Ford Power Train, he is the one who designed them and sells them to Mummert. You might as well buy direct.

OK that's the last time I'm saying this Wink

A fellow wrote in here - Rick Nolen - 60tbirdrick asking about the rack and pinion set-ups available. He had already installed the "Gearhead" set-up - and wanted to do away with it. I sent him a couple of PM's to find out why - and he had a pretty sorry tale to tell about the quality of the modified steering box. It apparently gets hotter and hotter with use and reaches a critical temp where it just flat freezes up. He wanted to put a whole new system on his 60 and get rid of the Gearhead parts ASAP.
