My valley pan has an offset in the oil fill tube, was this to clear a power steering pump or is it for a specific application like T-Bird or truck.  The only type I've seen until now have had a straight fill tube.

I have one of those valley pans that came from a truck engine, I think it was from a 58 1  1/2 ton, but it's the only one that I've seen.

I believe that it is for clearing the coolant supply tank which is above thermostat housing, because the one with straight tube has no room for breather cap. These are from year models 60 and up in passenger cars. I have not seen them in pick-ups.

I'm with Tero on this one.  I've only observed the 'crooked' oil fill tubes as being factory installed on the '60 and up passenger car engines.  The '63 model truck engine I have sitting here still has the longer straight oil fill tube as was found on most of the earlier models.  With forty plus years of parts being interchanged on these engines, some of the obvious reasons for things like 'crooked' oil fill tubes are not as obvious any more.
