Does anyone know the metalurgy of a 55 ford standard bell housing. Mines cracked and I need to know before welding, thanx, Gary

I don't know the exact metallurgy, but they are cast iron, most likely grey iron.  They aren't hard to find, in fact H ave a few if you are interested.

           It's cast iron as John said. Better to replace than weld, because it is stressed and will crack again around the welds.
