Ok, so yesterday on "labor" day, I finally had a chance to breathe and do something in the hobby. Fired up my Blown Y block for a few minutes, caught the attention of the neighbor, he came down, alarmed the neighborhood, and so on. Good stuff!!! BigGrin

BUT, my father-in-law came over, and we got to work on redoing his interior in his 55 Club Sedan. We removed the old headliner, which was a custom job (nice back in the day, but it had a lot of condensation/moisture issues), and noticed that there was plenty of the yellow fiberglass insulation. Question: was this insulation to hold the heat in during cold weather? Should it be replaced no matter what, and where can we pick some up? The black pad underneath was in near perfect shape, as were the bows, etc.

I assume the perforated vinyl lets the headliner breathe? (we are going back with something more original)

The fibreglass on the roof surface is for several reasons.

Heat insulation is one of its functions.

The other is for noise. The roofs can drumand vibrate without it in place, not to mention how noisy it is if it rains or hails on a roof without the insulation.

My thoughts with the hoodlining material is that perforated was one of the options for 55-56. In 57 they got cheap and only had black dots painted on the hoodlining.

Thanks Rick, he has decided to go with the same kind/type of material. There is a jute style headlining on the metal ceiling, then we will put up a black fiberglass batting, and then of course the headliner. Looks like a "fun" job, but it will be worth it. We go all of the bows painted with black rustoleum yesterday, and have started cleanup on the surfaces of the car roof and side attachments....Jessup

The headliner is about ready to go back in the car, and I ended up purchasing some kind of hi-tech, thin, lightweight insulation at lowes the other day. A little better rating than stock, and no fiberglass...some type of space-age stuff I guess. It went in very well, I know that. Hopefully I can tackle this job soon while there is still hot weather around...Tongue
