Lil' help here..?! I need to fit seatbelts in my '56 4 door and there are no original mounting points.

 I just bought some generic lap belts before it left the States,  Im a bit unsure as to where they go... In the front do they go around the outside of the seat or both parts of the belt pass through the seat? They are the old flip catch chrome style does that go towards the middle of the seat or to the outside [door] its attached to the longest part of the belt.

The belts pass through the seat not around.I have the buckle part in the middle on both sides as you will avoid getting the buckle damaged  closing the door if it falls off the seat getting out of the car.I think mine are 66 inch long and are plenty long enough front and back.

  

Thanks Mark, IS there problems with the buckle being on the outside [ door side when done up]? I'm just asking as it's oposite to all modern cars... Or am I thinkin' about it too much

I'm with OLDCARMARK on this. Buckle to the inside as this with prevent paint, buckle and tin damage if the buckle happens to fall off while on the outside. Yes, today's cars have the buckle on the outside, but they are retractable so they do not usually fall out.



If you are putting in retractables, then you can have the buckle to the outside.



Unless you have had the rear pans replaced, there should be spots where the seat belts should go. Remember, this is the first year of Ford's safety interior.

Kool.. so the long belt with the buckle attached comes from the middle.. If I take the rear seat out can I see where they should go. . I take it if I get under the car it should be obvious...?

Now thats the stuff Marv !  Bit hard to see the second diagram behind the seat.. Is that showing the belt mounted on the hump?

Yes, factory mounted it on the hump or the side of the hump. They used a U type of bracket with two drilled holes. First hole 1" off centre line. 4 9/16 back. shoot me a PM with your email address and I can send a better picture as this site shrinks them .

Claim to fame is the car was used as an extra in the movie Diner with Micky Rourke, Steve Gootenburg, Paul Riser and Kevin Bacon.

There is no online installation pictures of the seatbelt that I am aware of.

The pictures I posted are from my copy of the original 52-56 Ford installation instruction sheet.
