Thanks all. I will try scraping the head & intake with a gasket scraper then use emery cloth then Permatex no 2. I will keep you all posted on the outcome.

Well all i can say is that i have used permatex 2 for years, where surfaces are a very close flat fit and carefully use high temp blue silicon where surfaces have more gap, obviously overuse can lead to excess falling into engine and maybe oil pump screen, just use enough but away from inside edges like the sump.

Anyone have experience with Permatex no 2. It is non silicon, slow dry, non hardening. I was told not to use any silicon product & not to use fast drying Permatex no 1

I have always used black high temp silicone or "gaskasinge" (not sure on the spelling) and it seemed to not fail. Apply to both the gasket and surface, wait until tacky and slap them together. Works like a charm. "Six of one, half a dozen of the other."

So that the gasket can be used repeatedly when testing intake manfolds on the dyno, I use white grease on the top side of the intake gasket.  Getting 8 or more intake manifold changes to a set of Y-Block intake manifold gaskets by using white grease on the gasket works well.  Both FelPro and Best Gasket intake gaskets appear to be equal in this regard.

I haven't used intake gaskets from best gasket but I use Felpro and use no sealant ever and never have a problem with leakage.

I apply a very thin coat of silicone only to the area around the water passage. I use my finger to spread it on the gasket. Technically it shouldn't be needed. It's just cheap insurance. Apply thread sealant to the bolts.

I just bought intake gasket set 14045 from Best Gasket. Should I use a sealant? Which one? If so , apply to the metal surface or the gasket? How much/little? Any other tips?
