I was planning on making linkage like that to attach to the 6 parts that bolt on the firewall,I presently have a lokar cable system but it looks out of place and needs to go. When I put the 351 in I was hoping to use some of the original linkage but the motor sits up against the firewall so none of the original parts will work,in order to install later factory Ford stuff would have require destroying that heat duct on the firewall so that was out of the question. The only way to get it looking correct was put the Y block back in.

What I will be installing is a 62 292 with a 57 4 bbl intake and a holley or edelbrock carb,I hope I can use the 6 cylinder parts since it bolts on the body only and is not like the V8 where part bolts on the body and then there is the bracket on the intake that it goes through. I might have to do some heating and bending of the arm but it would be a much simpler linkage if I could use it.

I put a 292 with a 4 bolt Holley 2v in a 56 Mainline about 10 years ago. I wound up scrounging a donor car with the correct throttle linkage to make it work. A 272 with a 3 bolt Holley takes yet another linkage because the throttle lever is on the passenger side.

Since my 55 is not going to get the FOM when the 292 gets sat down in it I wont need all the complicated linkage and was thinking about the 6 cylinder stuff,I seen a 56 mainline with a FE that was still using the 6 cylinder linkage on the firewall and it worked geat and looked like it was made for it. I like the idea of the 6 parts better since it bolts to the firewall only and not the motor so wont flex when the motor moves,I was looking at stick shift throttle linkage today but they only came with 2 bbls and the linkage is on the pass side of the carb like the flatheads so I dont think it will work too good with a modern 4 bbl. I was at a local junkyard today and found a 56 mainline that had a six and grabbed the linkage, now before anyone says a 56 linkage wont work on a 55 you will be wrong in my case since my 55 is a very late 55 (mid to late august) and has a 56 firewall and other 56 body parts so I can go 55 or 56 on the throttle linkage. I had kept some of the original linkage from my 55 that had a 272 4 bbl and could use it if the 6 parts wont work but if it will work with a FE I think it should work with a Y block,so has anyone did a V8 swap and get by with using the 6 cylinder throttle linkage as I would like to know.
