I'm trying to ID this balancer, the seller said it came off a 57 Fairlane. The part # on it is "ECG 6316 D1". Also on it are the letters S/R , SG over 129, and 596. The balancer is pinned to the hub with small allen screws in three places, TDC through 50 in two degree marks and then at 90, 180, and 270. I do not have any parts books for late fifties stuff but I have never seen another balancer like this one. I bought it off E bay last year for $35+s&h. Anybody have any ideas? Tom

Tom: If the belt groove is 1/2" wide, it is '55-'56. If it is 3/8", it is '57 or later. The three allen screws have been installed by someone to repair a slipped damper, or to prevent it from slipping. It probably won't function as a vibration damper with the screws in it. The marks have been added to allow timing to be set, also the 90, 180, 270 degree marks were probably used to position the crankswhaft for valve adjustment. John
