Is there any articles made about building a shift kit for two speed gearbox or how to make it work manually. I am a bit interested after annoying shift problems with our Twin Turbo Y-block machine. How many horsepowers that kind of a tranny can handle when it is working properly or is it a waste of time to play with it? w00t

So there has been some modifications during the years, but does anybody sell these shift kits that are presented on these sites?

You know the Ford O Matic is pretty tough but heavy. If you manualy shift it you can lock it into second. Start off in low, when the engine revs are up to where you want them manualy move the selector to drive (shifts to second) and immediately pull it back down into low. This will lock the transmission into 2d gear until you move the lever up to drive. Just don't do this under 20-30 mph as the tranny will shift into low so if your under rpm its embarassing!

I dont know of any current "shift kits" for the Ford O Matic but some of the guys here might know some tricks. Chuck

I understand you can get shift kits for the FMX. Sounds like you should look in the tech section on this site at the FMX/FOM up grade.  Gerry

Guys:

I believe the transmission in question is a true 2 speed, not the cast iron case 3 speed FOM.  At least that's what is covered in the links posted by Hollow Head.  None of the FOM/FMX stuff fits.  It was designed as an economy transmission, and performance parts were probably never a serious consideration.

Thats true. If the case fits its a 2 speed! I would start looking for a FMX, C-4 or AOD! Chuck
