Hi Steve! Look for oil which is Diesel rated and high in Zinc.Getting harder to find with high Zinc.15w40 or 20w50 are good grades to look for.I use Rotella brand here in Canada but I dont think you have Walmart there-yet?

hi steve i'm in jolly old England, norwich to be precise and there are 2 other Y-block owners near by. i've a 292 in a 56 f100 the book i have indicates 7 qts including filter. i've looked at the oil problem over here, no Brad Penn grade 1 available there is Joe Gibbs oil but it is expensive . recently came across Miller oils their classic oil seems right, good price. their webb site says it has the right amount of ZDDP but does not say how much. webb site can lead you to a local supplier happy hunting stuey

Isn't there a difference between England and US volumes? Mine shows 6 quarts with filter change for a truck.

Stu, There's several additives available here that have ZDDP and other chemicals. A lot of us add it to "Racing" oil. Oils specifically designed for older engines without roller tappets are generally OK. How come it took you so long to find this site?

The "colonies" and England measure in litres not quarts. and the Canadian quart is different from the US quart.I just changed mine and I believe it was just about 6 litres.US quart =.946 litre.Canadian quart=1.13 litres

Hi There
Here in Oz I have been using Penrite HPR 30 which is allegedly similar to their classic range and has the correct quantity of zinc.
I usually put 5 litres in mine when I change the oil and filter.
