I have too tall of gears for a o/d right now and a friend has a good C-4 that I can have if I pull it out so thats the plan for now,the 351 would not run well with a AOD because the moron that built the motor stuck in a cam that comes in around 2000 RPMs and above.  I specified a idle to 4000 cam but he stuck in that one instead so I will keep it a 3 speed automatic for now,it ran great on the trip to Florida if I was going over 70 but had no power under 65.

Can't you bolt an AOD in place of the C-4? Then when you go to the Y you can get an adapter and keep it. Chuck in NH

I think the trans will need more then a service since it has less the 10,000 miles since I put it in with all new fluid, external seals and filter and not driven hard untill this trip,I have a feeling the pump is worn or some internal seals are letting go as it did have a funny shift in third at light throttle since I put it in so I think its time for a rebuild which I dont want to waste the money on it since I want to change to a 292 and FMX.  I think I found one to put in but I need a bellhousing since mine is a pan fill and the one I found minus the bell is a case fill,I am also looking into finding a running 55 to 57 4 door to rob the drivetrain from and forget about the 292 I have.

hi jeff, i'd pull the pan and look to see if you have any metal shaveings in the oil. you might get by with a trans. service, change the oil and clean the filter. also make sure the converter didn't come loose. the bands are adjustable on the c-4. they also made a band that was replaceable without pulling the trans. it's worth checking it out before you get crazy.

I fired up the 55 the first time since getting home from Daytona and heard a noise coming from under the car and sounds like the trip was hard on the junkyard C-4,since I was wanting to build a 292 while still driving it with the 351 and C-4 it looks like I will have to make a decision.  Its making a rattling sound untill the pressure builds up so the pump might be on the way out and do not want to rebuild this trans since its days were numbered in the 55 but its going to be next winter untill I start on the 292 and would like to drive it next summer,I am thinking about buying a running 55 or 56 with a rusty body and install the drivetrain in my 55 and drive it untill I can go through the 292.  I could try to find a good used trans which would be the cheapest way but dont want to spend a bunch of money on a trans that I will never use again after its pulled from the 55,the 351 has the wrong cam and do not want to replace it since the next car its going in has a manual trans and I want to go a little more radical on the cam for that car so there is no sense in opening up that motor untill its pulled out of the 55.  I hate doing things twice but might have to on this car so I can drive it next summer.
