No vac line to the distributor. Looks like it might have a water pump spacer. Price seems high. Am I looking for something wrong, right, or other?

Wrong items Rolleyes For a real Bird engine

No tach drive on the distributor.Ballast resistor is replacement style-not original style

No inline glass bowl fuel filter

Water outlet neck incorrect.Bird engines puke straight ahead.Passenger cars point upwards

Front sump pan-Birds are rear sump

Breather in the wrong place for a Bird engine-Birds use a road draft tube vented off the valley pan

Incorrect heads for Bird-Bird engines exclusively use a large cast ECZ G on the pad-those are small pad castings

Fuel pump could be a replacement large capacity pump-but not right for a Concours Bird

Cant read the carb #s but #s are correct at bottom of listing

At least the valve covers are correct w00t  O.K. Waddu I win !!

It's definitely not a bird engine. The t-bird special is a passenger car engine so most of those things are correct. It certainly does not fit every application listed, as assembled.

yes, the seller doesn't claim it came from a Bird, just that it is a 57 312, with the thunderbird special stuff, namely valve covers. Clearly has all passenger stuff. Price doesn't seem out of line to me considering what it costs to find and build one.

So what are we missing here, Tim?

Well, I was hoping you guys would see what I see.  If you look at the pix you can see that the surfaces on the heads and block were just cleaned up with either a wire wheel or one of those scotch bright discs (yuck! Crazy ) also the intake valves are used.  (it does say  " Valves and Guides as Needed") and does it say anything about hard exhaust seats? I also think it looks like some paint over dirt on the "new" freeze plugs.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is one persons idea of a complete rebuild is different than others.  It may be a very good runner but I would call it overhauled not rebuilt.  Maybe I'm just over opinionated. Tongue

Tim. we can all be opinionated at times.  I would say the selling is leaving a lot of the details out and letting a lot of individual interpretation to take place.  After all the heads and block have been resurfaced.  He just didn't mention how.  The heads did get a value job he just didn't mention with used valves.  Unless you are an expert or really slow down and look close you would not probably notice.  I didn't until you point it out then it becomes pretty obvious he is in my opinion being completly upfront and honest.  Guess that is why my engine was shipped half way across the counrty to be rebuilt.  Wink

Also no mention about cam or lifters. This with the missing info on what kind of valve job (seats and guides) and questionable head/block work I would think he is about $1000 too high. Is does have a great paint job! We use to call the rebuild in a can.
