1956 Ford pop! an even better use of a Yblock. Gotta chuckle that an English machine looks so pre war. Thanx for guiding me to 'location tag line', had to get my 15 year old to do it but there I am.

First thing to check is that the cap on the oil filler is clean, then also check the filter in the crankcase breather. If smoke is excessive I would suspect blow by from worn rings. A compression check will help with that. And like others have said installing a PVC system will allow better breathing of crankcase but it won't fix worn rings.

Where is the oil filler and breather? I don't see the filler in the picture. You have to have 2 vents, one for intake, and one for exhaust. If you have only one or filters are clogged, then it can smoke a lot.

A small amount of vapor from the vents is normal, as these engines don't have factory PCV systems like newer vehicles. An excessive amount of vapor is caused by combustion pressure leaking past the compression rings. Cylinder wall taper also contributes to the problem. A cylinder leakdown test will tell you exactly what is going on.

The crankcase needs to be sucked back into the intake manifold and there's lots of ways to do it. My preferred method is to suck it into the air cleaner between the element and the venturii, bit difficult with those little ones. It's also possible to suck directly into the intake manifold, I'm not sure how that's done without adversely affecting air/fuel, probably with an appropriately restricted pcv valve. so what exactly is wrong with the engine steve.

Uhh, the yellow and flame vehicle doesn't look like any 56 Ford I've seen, however the greatest thing about that older rod is that it doesn't have a chev engine in it.

Other bits I note on that car is the rocker cover seems dented by over tightening. I figure the tin covers are difficult to stop leaking and over tightening generally makes them leak more. Suggest getting cast alum covers, looks upgrade alone is worth the cost. I also would suggest changing those rubber fuel lines to steel tubing, you'd have the problem with engine movement and that wall mounted fuel manifold to take care of. Perhaps using a fuel log to the 3 dueces. If one of those rubber hoses goses so does the car.
Any one got a 50s vette I can put a Yblock in?

i own a 1956 ford pop with a 292 ford y engine phots below . i dont know much about these engines but want to learn the problem is there is smoke comming out of the breather and the oil filler can somebody tell me what is going on.
