i am sticking with the stock carb setup. what is the correct part number for the pertronix upgrade? i think i will look into that instead. probably the best bang for the buck since i will upgrade later down the road to another yblock

Give Pertronix a call. They will get you the correct part #. Google it.

Hi Jason.  Welcome to the site!

Using the Pertronix would be the simplest solution but this keeps your distributor as an original Load-O-Matic (vacuum only) design which is fine if your carburetion is original.  If trying to use a modern carburetor, then you’ll want to switch out the distributor to the later model mechanical/vacuum combination.  On the ’54 model 239/256, that will require a distributor drive gear change as well as changing out the oil drive and oil pump.

See if some of these past threads help you out.  Using the search function will bring up other related posts.  If there are still questions, just ask away.

Hey all!!  new to the forum today, came from the hamb.  i am putting a 54 victoria back together and i plan on converting the car to 12v.  i also want to upgrade the ignition.  any advice and what works, or what i should do to upgrade the ignition.  i see there are distributors out there that say they fit the 239, but i have read that they dont fit.  and i know pertronix makes parts to convert the original.  please let me know which route i should go.  i know i should upgrade to a better engine, but this one has been rebuilt and is completely reassembled and ready to drop in when im ready.  so i plan to use this engine til i can come accross a 292 or 312.

Jason
