Dial indicator on a magnetic base stand works great on a nailhead Buick because its a flat surface to locate on. The Y block head angle makes it difficult to register the indicator tip, it wants to slide up the rocker. The P&G set up fixes the unit to the valve spring retainer making accurate adjustments very precise.

If you can please show us a picture of your set up with dial indicator on a Y block head.

Why not just use a dial indicator on a stand? Thats what I've been doing for a starting point. just make sure the pin on the indicator is straight up and down in relation to the valve stem or push rod. Chuck in NH

Thanks Ted

I think I can make this work with a #2 Barrel and X adapter, however I have to make some notches to clear the taper in the dove rocker and the dowel pin. I will photo the modification if measurements will allow this. It looks like not much has to be removed.

The ‘as supplied’ width of the Dove, Rocker Arm Specialists, and Harland Sharp aluminum bodied rockers prevents the P&G valve gapper from being used with the P&G “Y” barrel adapter.  Using a P&G barrel adapter for another engine might be an option as I’ve only got three different barrels for my particular gapper.
