just spent part of this afternoon (sunny and mild) letting my 15 year old son drive me around town and on the freeway!  Even let him back the car (57 Fairlane) out of the garage... no small feat of timing and coordination!

as the commercial used to say, "it doesn't get any better than this...".  He has helped me work on this thing since he was old enough to hold a wrench and paint scraper, and now we spend our time tooling around with him behind the wheel most of the time.

can I get an "Amen" on father-son bonding in a Y block powered Ford!!

Mark

Good job!  I think it's great to see dad and son driving together, seems a lot of kids today don't even care about driving.  When I was a teen that's all I wanted to do.Wink

Will a Hail Mary work?

I think all the boys in my family drove my brothers 56 long before we had licenses, I think he still has a broken park light from my step brothers learning. Very high geared standard with no power steering and he was taking off on a hill turning left, he didn't quite turn enough when he finally got the clutch out and scraped a stone wall.

I didn't have any old cars when my daughters were at the age of getting their licences, but my grand sons will defiately be learning in one.

Couldn't agree with you more Mark.  I have nine grand kids and the ones in this state are too young to appreciate the racing, but when the pre-teens come to visit, the first thing they want to do is drive and I cannot buy the feeling of watching the smile on their face.  I built a go cart with two of them and you cannot call them in for dinner.

Not a good idea guys! Unless 15 yrs olds are allowed to drive in your area? In British Columbia's jurisdication, letting a 15yr old drive your car on the road, will get you a large fine, points on your license & likely your car impounded, with the costs added on.. And God help you if the kid has a serious accident. The required Provincial insurance will pay the 3rd party claim & then sue you for damages..

I'm sure glad my dad didn't play by the rules, although I did have 2 tickets for driving without a license before I was 16.  No one got hurt and I payed the fines, that was a different time.

I get your drift Paul, but I live in the country, almost 12 miles from civilization and we just drive the jeep around the farm.

Son has his learner's permit, which allows him to drive w/an adult on board. he's sixteen this week and can't wait to take his test and get a full license... Mom can't do a thing about it, either!

It does get better.

I still smile when I think about looking in the review mirror of my 56 and seeing my son in his 67 stang back there all the way to Carslile last year.  We have been working on cars together since he was old enough to pick up tools.

We started on his stang when he was 17, he is now 23 and the Carslile trip was the stangs first road trip. Between my 56 and his stang the boy grew up in the garage.

We have been to carslile together many times but this was the best trip we ever had
