As I collect more and more 55-57 Ford publications,I have come across a question in the titles of the books and what exactly they are intended for.

For instance the Pricing catologues are listed for two versions.

One is listed as "Net Price List for WholesaleTrade" while a second catologue for the same "effective date" is listed as "Net Price List for Ford Dealers".

Can anyone tell me why there are two differently intended clients and what if anything are different about the two  publications?

While I have not had an opportunity to compare the two differently titled price booksas of yet,I would assume they would contain the same information?

Any ideas Unsure

I'm thinking the1st one is the price the dealer pays for something and the 2nd one is what the dealer charges the customer.

Dennis

After your comment I did go and inspect the actual price charts in each collumn.

The differences are in the "Ford Dealer" list is exactly what it means.

There is an additional price collumn in the Ford Dealer Price Book that states the Dealer Net Price, along with the Wholesale Trade Net and List Price whereas the Wholesale Trade Price List only shows List Price and Wholesale Trade Net.

Had to get motivated by your response to answer my own question.

By the way Dennis-the lead that you gave me for the 312 engine worked out and I THANK YOU !!!!

Glad I could help out with the engine. When I saw him he didn't know what to ask for it. I hope it wasn't too much.

Has it been bored before?

It is an almost compleat (minus intake and carb) original,57 Merc 312-stuck Angry but otherwise in clean shape.

G heads and a 3 pulley balancer

Not a gift at $600.00. but it was close to home.

Still dont have it apart.Waiting for the word from the machine shop on another 312 block that I took over before I tear this one down.

I spent 10 years at several Ford parts counters.Dealer net is the price Ford sells to the dealer at(on paper).End of year volume discounts would be rebated to the dealer.Wholesale net is the suggested price dealers should sell to garages and repair shops at.Dealers were supposed to stick with those prices so that no dealer had a price advantage over another Ford dealer.Supposed to stop dealers from stealing each others customers. That is(was) was negotiatable depending on how much dollar wise the wholesale account would purchase over the course of a year.Usually 5-10% off wholesale net was a common discount. Some parts were classified as "captive" like sheet metal or trim items available ONLY through Ford.Other items like plugs, brake parts, fan belts or any item available from competitors like jobbers was deeply discounted to be competitive. The price books showing wholesale net and retail only prices would have been used by wholesle accounts so they would know their cost and what retail price to charge their customers when doing repairs or estimates or by resellers who were being supplied by the Ford dealer.Parts like Motorcraft tune-up parts and belts, hoses etc..They didn't need to know what the Ford dealers cost was from Ford for sure.My Dad spent about 30 years doing Ford parts.Up until about the late 60's early 70's many Ford and Mercury vehicles used the same mechanical(wheel cyl,tie rod ends etc) parts in common. If you had a good memory like my Dad,20 years after retiring he could still recall those part #'s.Seeing your question took me back to things I hadn't thought about in over 25 years.Just remembered something else.If there is a number to the right of dealer net price these were called incentives.Extra rebates to the dealer for selling these particular parts. The numbers are a money value usually less than $1.00
