I installed Sanderson Y-block headers (Model No. FTB1), in October of 2008. Absolutely no problems with the steady rests in their stock positions on my 1957 T'bird with it's 312 motor. All kinds of room on the passenger side. Tighter on the driver's side with the steering box and the hardware for my standard shift clutch linkage etc. Had to have a competent welder at the local muffler shop make up the exhaust pipes from the header collector to the muffler intake. But all was do-able and I'm very pleased with the "Sanderson's" Donna (the owner) was very helpful.

I was just out in the garage eyeballing the header and its position with the stock manifold still in place. It looks like the passenger side might well clear but not so sure about the drivers side. Seeing the FPA's relocation of the steady rests I assumed there would be similar problems for the Sandersons but maybe not.

Will not the stock steady rest work with the Sanderson headers?

Is anyone here running Sanderson headers on a Tbird? I have been going back and forth over FPA's and Sandersons. I have a new set of Sanderson shorties awaiting installation with hopefully incoming Mummert aluminum heads soon. I don't think I can swing the extra cost of the FPA's given the cost of the heads and all the peripheral I need to get this engine upgraded. I looked at the Sanderson's this evening scratching my head trying visualize how the steady rests can be mounted. I am not a welder and will probably have to farm this out to a shop of sorts once I understand how to mount them. I would appreciate some help with how to go about it. Thanks.
