I am planning on (as soon as my back feels better) on putting a c4 into my 56 f100 (with mummerts bell housing, already purchased) If you live anywhere near NY, I have a 3 speed in it now, and everything will be available once i make the swap.

I put a T5 into my 56 ford a while ago and it has made all the difference. I used Mummerts kit which worked great. I got a used car bellhousing from him, but I had a transmission from a 85-93 mustang so I can't comment on how a s10 would fit or not. Shortly after I bought all the parts from Mummert I found a '56 parts car nearby that had all the clutch parts I needed (I was switching over from an old Ford-O-Matic, so I had a heap of issues to solve) The car did have a bellhousing in it in good shape, and putting it side to side with the used one I got from Mummert, it was identical. So if you decide to go with Mummerts kit, I may be able to sell you the extra bellhousing I have.
Actually now that I think of it, I ended up using the bellhousing from the '56 parts car I got, because it had the throw out bearing fork and bracket I needed. So the extra bellhousing I have is the used one I got from Mummert, but I don't have a throwout bearing fork for it.
I also used the Automotive Electric starter and it is amazing! Bolts right up to the bellhousing and turns the engine over like a champ! I couldn't figure out how to use the stock '56 gasket that goes in between the starter and the bellhousing though, so I had to make my own.
I wont try and get into pricing, cause Im sure you have a better idea of what you need/want, but as far as functionality and customer service I have high regard for Mummerts! And if you want to stop swearing at your old starter, then the gear reduction starter is the only way!

Hutz 292 (4/6/2011) I recently bought a kit from bendstens and installed an E4OD in my 62 F100 4X4. The kit was very complete and the instructions were very clear. It came with adapter plate, starter, flywheel, bolts and clear instructions. I had to build motor mounts off of the adapter plate but it wasn't that bad to do. Working with John is very good also so if you have any questions just give John a call. Good luck with your build.
RobiHi Robi, I sent you a PM. I'd LOVE to talk to you about your engine/trans install! Regards, Rick

toreadorxlt (4/9/2011) Thanks guys.
It is going in a 1930 pontiac 3W coupe. Length isn't a big issue. Would it be possible to run a S10 tranny on the bendtsen's kit? It seems like it just turns the back of my Y into a SBC. Way to go, glad to see a Ford engine going into a GM car.

I am also considering using a mustang T-5 on my 1956 Ford F-100 with the 292 Y-block. I presently have two bell truck bell housings with flywheels and pressure plates running manual 3 and 4 speed transmissions. If I understand correctly, the kit John sells will work with these bell housings. Will the clutch and pressure plate work with this swap as well? Can an S-10 tail shaft simply replace the tail shaft on a mustang T-5 by just bolting up with no additional modifications?

You will need at least a couple new components for the clutch. While the S10 swap is an option, I advise you so determine if the T5 will work as is out of the Mustang for your needs. The S10 swap introduces it's own set of issues. If you need the S10 housing, it's absolutely worth it but if not, it's just additional headaches and expense. Here is a pretty good outline of a T5 install. http://www.y-blocksforever.com/forums/Topic15164-4-1.aspx?

Is there a specific year mustang T-5 that might work with a 1956 Ford 292 F-100 (3/4 speed manual transmission)? How much consideration should be given to the "world class" option?

You want a T5 from a 1983- 1993 Mustang. Re the world class, there are many opinions on it. The conclusion I drew when I was researching is that world class doesn't mean much of anything. They basically have some upgrades that increase the reliability and user friendliness. It has nothing to do with the overall strength of the transmission. With that in mind, you should not be overly concerned with finding a world class T5 and if you choose to rebuild the transmission, then it does not matter at all, just have it upgraded at the time of the rebuild. Above all, research for yourself and draw your own conclusion.

Thanks Charlie, I am assuming the T-5 out of a 83-93 Mustang would be quite an improvement over the truck floor shift 3 and 4 speeds that bolt to the Y-Blocks. I have not had the opportunity to shift either the original 3 or 4 speed, nor the T-5.
