I have started getting the 3 94's built for the 57 Bird 312. Making a list of stuff needed from Charlie Price at Vintage Speed. I am using a Edlebrock 573 intake with two ECG 1 1/16" carbs for secondaries that have Vintage Speed aluminum secondary bases; no idle circuits, choke plates, spark valves and new throttle plates that close fully at idle. The primary is a 1 1/16" venturi 2100. What is the best way to determine what power valve or valves to use? Do all three carbs need a power valve?

Power valve in only the main carb (I assume the middle). You can get plugs from Charley Price- if you can deal with him. He usually will not return phone calls or emails. I would start with a stock size if the cam is a factory cam. With a high performance cam, you may have to start with one or steps lower.

I have bought parts from him in the past. The only way I deal with him is to order over the internet - otherwise you may not be able to talk with him and watch out for his wife.

The end carbs get plugs in the power valve hole. The idle circuits get blocked in the end carbs.

I used a 6.5 power valve.

Yes, I have read about his cranky ways. I am going through his catalog very carefully and being sure of every part I want. The order will be by internet. I have a stock cam now but thinking of upgrading to Mummert's 270 cam and lifters to go with the aluminum heads. I will start with a 6.5 but which way should I go, up or down, if I get the Mummert cam? I already have Sanderson headers and MSD/Petronix ignition.

Just answered my own question about power valve selection by checking the Holley website. Idle vacuum minus 2" or 1/2 idle vacuum to keep the power valve from opening at idle.
