Any advice for which rods to use in a 292.  It is for a 55 Tbird and when I rebuild the engine I just figured I might as well make practical changes to improve the engine.  I am going to use a set of 113 posted heads and the aluminum intake and more modern carb.  Will use a warmer cam.  I will probably switch to a C4 tranny.  Looking to spice things up but not get crazy.  Didn't know if some of the heavier truck rods would be a good investment or just clean up and balance what is in the engine.

Probably magnaflux, rebuild the big ends, rebush the small ends if needed will be all you'll need.  You can polish the beams if you like for added reliability.  If you want a little stronger looking rod, you can use the late 292 (C2AE forging number rather than the EBU originals) with the same preparations.  Y Blocks don't usually break rods.

Hi rex;  Put a C4 in my 55 Bird and now wish I had put in the AOD.  Did not know they made an adaptor for it until about a year after my conversion.  RPM is pretty high on highway with the C4.  Just food for thought.    Eddie

Question:  Do you always assume that the big ends of the rods need to be resized?  If not how do you determine if they do or dont?

Take them to a machine shop that rebuilds rods.  They can use their dial indicator on the honing machine to check them for size and out of round.
