I need to replace the ring gear on my Bird's Fordomatic while I have the engine out. Is this the proper way to do it?



Grind the tack welds down and then use a hammer and drift on the floor to push the ring gear off the torque converter, heat the new ring gear to about 300 degrees ( no hotter) and slide it into place, then tack weld it to the converter. Any tips?



BTW, who ever installed this tranny indexed the flexplate wrong and covered up the torque converter drain plugs. Arrrgh!
