Sallens,

Do a Google check to confirm this. The C 9B is I believe C is Fordspeak for anything from the 1960s. So a "C" and 9B is 1969 February. This make it a 24 spline input shaft C4. This is not what you want. Keep looking. Any C4 will bolt up to either the Flat O matic or other adapter. Pete

Want to add if you want a 70 or later C4 with the 26 spline shaft ( and you do) look for a tag with

D0 = 1970 or D1 = 1971, you get the idea

The C4 is a very easy autobox to rebuild and requires no special tools. Go online and check out Badshoe for a video on rebuilding a Ford C4

Steve

i'll not pull the wool over your eyes   i know precious little about Y's and even less about automatic gear boxes i come from a cycling back ground (pedal variety) so hopefully the guys on this site will put us both right.

as far as i know you want a 70s up c4.  the trans id tag gives model no and when it was built, serial no useful when ordering spares.things to look for are dipstick into pan, 26 splines i/p, 11" converter  i think earlier models had a vent tube on the left side later models had a mushroom dodad on top of the tail housing. one thing you should grab with the box is the o/p drive yoke.

even if i'm not strictly accurate it may get you asking the right questions

stuey

ps i'm in norwich

morning Steve

suggest you go to Y-BlocksForever home page select Articles and peruse Jeff Hallems article

you need complete Flat-o-products kit , available thro Mr Mummert, and an FE starter.

you also need access to a tig welder to weld  existing studs on torque converter.

i did the conversion on a 56 f100

are you in the uk?

stuey

They are a good tranny but behind the Y you need an adapter plate, Check Mummerts site for one. I was watching passtime last night and several cars had them pushing over 700 HP
