I am trying to buy a Y block over the phone, the seller thinks it is a Y block but not sure. What is the easy way to identify a 292 from a 352. The seller said it came out of a 59 Ford

I'm pretty sure the 352 had the distributor in front while the Y has it at the rear of the engine..

A true Y block as we call them has 2 studs holding down the valve covers, the later FE engines, 332 352 390 406 427 have 5 bolts around edges of valve covers.
