I know what you mean.When I bought mine I was under the dash doing something when I noticed a wire with the insulation all burned off.It was the wire from the ignition switch to the ballast resistor.If it had ever touched metal under the dash I guess it would have killed the ignition.Old cars are FUN! Good to hear you found your problem.By the way if it starts in Park and Neutral someone has installed a 58 style neutral switch.Same as mine.

Guys, i solved the problem. I run a new wire from the starter solenoid to the top off the ignition switch. I guess the old wire is broken some where in the circuit. I hate old wires, it always cause a bunch off problem.. Thanks Robin Norway

Yes, i have tried in park and neutral. The car have startet in both park and neutral before.

Robin: Are you aware that a '55 with FOM will only crank in Neutral, will not crank in Park?

Thanks for the hot wire tip, was in a kinda hurry last night to see the car. But think i slow down the speed and try to solve the problem. The problem appered before i changed the ignition switch. You have 3 spot on the switch (Acc,Bat,Ign) I guess it will be 4, you have the one in the middle, is this to ground ? And what exactly is ACC ? I am shure i have got it right, wired it one by one. HOTWIRE 101 Use a small wire, 14 /16 gage with alligator clips on each end and connect the UNGROUNDED post of your battery to the coil( on the side that has the wire from the solenoid) if you are still positive ground this will be the (-) side. CAUTION YOU HAVE NO NEUTAL SAFETY and the car WILL START IN GEAR. This bypasses the ignition switch. Now jump the starter as you have already done and drive off into the sunset. When you want the motor to stop you remove one end of the wire with the two clips. Pete

Did this problem start with the changing of the ignition switch? If so, you need to re-visit the switch change, possibly wires on the wrong terminals.

Yes i have the key on when i run the jumper wire. The light in the instrument, Gen/Oil is switching when i turn the key. The electrical system in the car is in bad condition. I was wondering to just bypass the old system with som new wires ?

When you jumped the solenoid did you have the key on? If so and no spark it sounds like you have no power to the key switch from the battery. This would cause a no crank as well as a no power condition to the ignition. The best investment you can make is a test light, they are cheap and can be used to find a multitude of electrical problems. Mike

So today i was going to fire the Y upp and take her out off the garage, after i lowered the car i was realy exited to see how it look like. But the in few seconds it was not so exited anymore. The car was not cranking. I have tried to run a wire stright from the solenoid to the battery, and the engine crank immedatley. But it was not fire, gues the coil not getting any power to it. I have try to change the ignition sitwch, but nothing else. The problem just apperaed out in the blue sky. Any clever ideas on this one ? Thanks Robin Norway
