Usually 1956 F-100's had the fan mounted on the pump. Sounds like you want the 56 and later truck water pump. You will also need a water pump pulleyand 56 later fan. The56 and latertrucks used the same crankshaft damper as the cars and have provision to mount the additional pulley to drive the P/S pump.
Perhaps the fan mounted on the pump was a mid year change on the 56 trucks or yours has the 55 set-up.I don't think the high mount pump was ever used in the F-100 pickups.
There are 2 "high-mount" pumps. One for the 55 239 and one for the 56 272 and later. I had BOTH, and they are not the same nor are they interchangeable.
(The "272" model will fit on the 272/292 timing cover but NOT on the 239 timing cover. It's a little bit "bigger")
If you could mount your radiator and shroud such that the regular water pump would center on the shroud, you wouldn't need the high-mount pump at all.
I can't do it on mine.....The engine sits way too low and the radiator is way too high in the F-600.
