Have been spending time here learning what I can on the board. I recently picked up an abandoned 292 rebuild project and am looking for a recommendation on where to take it. The plan is to replace the 223/3spd in my 57 custom with a 292/T5. I am located in the Blacksburg area. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for your assistance.

Mike; It's pretty difficult to just generalize on what to do with the engine, with no specifics at all...

Hey Paul,

I picked up a 292 that was being rebuilt. It is .30 over bare block that has been sitting, I am looking for a recommendation of machine shop in the south west virginia area or nearby NC or TN area that has experience with Y blocks. I have questions once I select a shop concerning what oil mods should be made, what are the best cam choices for a reliable street engine, should the deck be zeroed.....? Learned a lot on this site but want to get it right and would like to work with a knowlegble shop. fairly new to the area and was hoping some could point me in the right direction.

thanks

Mike,

I am in Christiansburg and I'm currently building a 312 Y block for my 55 Mercury.  I know a good machine shop in Roanoke that does Y block work.  Don't know if you want to post your phone number here for me to contact you but if you can I'll give you a lot more information including where you can get a good price on master engine rebuild kits for the Y block.
